The Long Island Council of The Navy League of the United States, an organization dedicated to strengthening the ties between Long Island-based defense supporters and veterans and the U.S. Navy, the U.S. Coast Guard and maritime sea services, has announced new leadership. Mr. Roger Noakes (South Setauket, NY) has been elected President, and Mr. Owen W. Mr. Noakes succeeds longtime President Forrest “Woody” Woodward. Mr. Noakes commented “I am very proud to be elected Council President and I look forward to helping shape the direction and future of the organization. Long Island is home to hundreds of defense contractors, active sea service personnel, veterans and cadet youths, all of whom we support through the outstanding work of our corporate members as well as through legislative outreach. Forthcoming efforts will highlight the valuable work of defense contractors and honor the invaluable contributions of veterans through fellowship events and activities.”
Vice President Watford added “being in a position to assist our men and women in uniform and all our veterans through corporate support and grassroots efforts creates a feeling of accomplishment in the defense of our nation. I’m pleased to announce that we will continue our tradition of commissioning US Navy ships with the commissioning of the Arleigh-Burke class guided missile destroyer USS Patrick Gallagher which is currently under construction.”
